About Us

Communities for Cause (CfC) was created to supplement school (and other non-profit) fundraising in a difficult economic climate. For example, public and private schools are increasingly challenged with budget cuts – over $18 billion was cut from California public schools since 2009!
Parents have demonstrated a willingness to support local schools through their day-to-day purchases as evidenced by the popularity of many Scrip programs. These programs, however, are not very effective and we believe the schools should be getting more.
Scrip is primarily offered through national brands which do not place much value in the marketing aspect of the program. As a result, a very small portion of sales are actually donated to causes through Scrip (the average is 4-5% across categories). Additionally, the process is cumbersome and often results in “breakage” or gift cards going unused. In fact, this is a primary reason that retailers participate in Scrip – over 10% of gift cards go unused.
